Skincare Regimen – Hitting the 40s
I’m soon gonna’ be horrible 40 and I’m starting to show my age as well. My skin seems to be getting thinner, and though I don’t suffer much from lines and wrinkles I am getting all blotchy and red! Ack. Any suggestions?
Missy, I think the most important thing for you is to use mild products! You want to give your skin more resilience an`1d calm it down so it doesn’t get red. I don’t know if the redness is just your skin reacting to outer stimuli and getting red, like a rash, or if it is tiny little broken blood vessels. The latter can happen when we are getting older, and even though you can’t make them go away (short of getting laser treatment) you can prevent new ones from forming by treating your skin mildly and protect your skin if you are out in the blistering cold.
The mildest cleanser we have is the Cleansing Milk with geranium. Massage it in and rinse off. If you use a wash cloth (good for gentle exfoliation), use a baby wash cloth. Follow up with the Cucumber & Aloe Toner. This toner is made with calming rose water, soothing aloe vera and cooling cucumber extract. It also has glycerine which will hydrate your skin. It is really lovely, and perfect for skin that is sensitive.
The most important product for you would be Golden Olive Serum. It is such a good product for increasing your skins ability to protect and regulate itself. It is made with Olive Squalane, a fatty acid derived from Olive Oil, and Sea Buckthorn Oil. Olive squalane enhances the skins ability to naturally regenerate, as it helps to nourish, hydrate and oxygenate your skin. Its skin hydrating properties make it effective in softening skin and helping to minimize fine lines and wrinkles. Sea buckthorn is a natural high source of Vitamins A, C & E, carotenes, flavonoids, essential fatty acids and phytosterols, which are all important for the maintenance of healthy skin. It is also a rich source of Vitamins B1, B2, K and P as well as in more that two dozen microelements. Use a couple of drops every morning and night. I like to apply it while my skin is still slightly damp from the toner. It spreads easier on the skin and sinks in faster.
For a moisturizer I would use Rich & Dreamy. It is unscented and deeply moisturizing without being too thick and oily. It is made with jojoba oil and rosehip oil, among other things. Both very good for keeping skin healthy and happy.
As a day cream, I would suggest that you use something with sunscreen and we happen to have one in the works! We have tried it out on ourselves for the past 6 months and we love it. It is a physical sunscreen, made with zinc oxide. Zinc oxide is also great for soothing skin as you may know (it is used in creams for diaper rash for instance). Keep an eye out for it! It will be called “An Apple a Day” (it is made with green apple extract). But for now, have you tried our Mineral Foundation? It contains both zinc oxide and titanium oxide, so your skin will be protected from UV rays, and the foundation will cover any redness you may have.
So to summarize, this is the regimen I recommend for you:
Splash your face with luke warm water
Cucumber Aloe Toner
A couple of drops of Golden Olive Serum
Rich & Dream Face Cream
Buddha Eye Cream (if you want to treat the skin around your eyes a little extra, but it is not a necessary product)
The same as above, but start with massaging in Cleansing Milk and gently wipe off with a damp baby wash cloth.
For you, I wouldn’t recommend any face masks or scrubs. Especially not scrubs! Your skin is thin and sensitive, so you just need mild products that will give its strength and suppleness back. 🙂
